News flash, I’ve lost my mind. Like, I’m utterly cuckoo right now. I realized this book is coming this April, and I am going nuts trying to get my hands on this ARC!
Okay first, calm down, let’s back up. Just over a week ago, I was browsing the net when a little birdie told me that Madeline Miller’s new book “Circe” was due out in April, and I literally screeched out loud. I mean, if you’ve read my recent review of The Song of Achilles, you’ll know just how much I loved it, so to be told that a retelling of such caliber was headed my way from the very same author, I totally freaked out.
Now I’m still waiting for Netgalley to get back to me, but if that doesn’t work out, I’m literally going to email the publishers and grovel for an arc or something. Screw the fact I’ve never done it before, and screw the fact that my blog is nowhere near the stats required for physical copies; I shall wheedle the freaking *bleeping* *bleeper* *bleep* out of this situation if it’s the last thing I do!!!!!
Okay I’m done. All I’m really trying to say is, I’m very excited about this book. I rarely get this hyped up for new releases, but as this is a retelling from a very talented author, I’m finding it a tad difficult to contain my excitement.
But in the meantime, here is a list of books that will have to satiate me during the wait! I suck at keeping to TBR lists, but as these are my most anticipated reads for the next few months, I’m pretty eager to get to them. 🙂 Cheers.
Hiddensee by Gregory Maguire
Ahhh, I’m so excited to read this! I’m aware that Gregory Maguire’s books are a bit of a hit or miss for some people, but as I’m a huge fan of the Wicked quartet, I’m very excited to see what depressing new drudgery the author has cooked up for me.
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
I’ll be honest. I was kind of let down by The Daughter of Smoke and Bone. It had such a great start to the story, only for the romance to bear down on the action, and it really dampened my enthusiasm by the end as a result.
However, that doesn’t change the fact that Laini Taylor’s writing is very beautiful, and I feel like whatever flaws existed in The Daughter of Smoke and Bone weren’t products of neglect or short-sightedness, so I’m almost sure I’ll like this book! I mean, most of my trusted bloggers have been raving about it, so what are the odds of failure, right?
Sky In the Deep by Adrienne Young
I’m not a fan of badass-looking heroines on covers (they generally tend to compensate for a not-so-badass content) but would you look at this cover? This chick is literally looking at me like, “Imma cut you dead bitch,” and I am so metaphorically turned on. This book is promising me a shrewd heroine with a very nice ax, so I’m totally eager to jump into this one–the reviews are great, it’s about Vikings, my body is ready.
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
I won this in a Goodreads giveaway. Sayeth whaaaat?! I don’t what it is with my luck nowadays, but as this one is coming in the mail some day or another, I am preparing my mind for its arrival. (I’ve heard great things about it!)
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
Please let this be good, please let this be good, please let this be good, please let this be good, please let this be good, please let this be good….
The Philosopher’s Flight by Tom Miller
And finally, a historical fiction meets fantasy read! This book takes place in an alternate reality where WWII is being fought with magic, so this is definitely one I plan on getting to within the month: I love historical fiction, and I’ve heard great things about this one.
So yup, that’s my TBR. Heavens knows when I’ll ever get to all of these (other books usually end up intercepting my interest along the way), but as these are books with great reviews, I’m optimistic I’ll knock some of them out within the month.
But now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go paint my bookshelves. My mother gave me permission to go full whackadoodle on her furniture, so I’m going to don my painting gear and get back to blogging once I’m done. Thanks for reading, and until next time!
I understand your pain about waiting for books you are so desperate to read to come out – hope you manage to get an arc of this!
I also really want to read Children of Blood and Bone – it just sounds so good!
Hope you enjoy all of these books 🙂

Most of these are on my “really excited about it” TBR as well! I got declined for CIrce and was gutted about it, but I am super excited for it to come out. Same for The Children of Blood and Bone

Oh no! That probably means I’ll get declined for sure then! *sobs* Oh well, waiting’s half the excitement in life…I guess. XD

I read an excerpt of Children of Blood and Bone and it was soooo good. I can’t wait to read the whole thing. You mentioned that Circe is a retelling – what is the original?

That’s so awesome! I’m even more excited to read it now!
Oh, and I guess “retelling” wasn’t the most apt term. Circe is a witch/goddess from Greek mythology, so I guess this is more of an adaptation/interpretation of the character? However you want to see it. 🙂

I recently entered a giveaway for Circe. Maybe if I’m lucky I should send it to you after!
Children of Blood and Bone is so high on my TBR that I actually preordered this one. SUPER KEEN. I’m just started The Cruel Prince and can tell you – three chapters in and I am obsessed!
I still can’t believe I haven’t read anything by Laini Taylor, I have a few of book on my TBR. I’m always a bit cautious when readers gush over how beautiful an author’s writing is because I worry it will take away from the actual story.

Oh I wouldn’t dare dream of accepting a book that you won! Thank you so much for offering though – I genuinely appreciate the thought regardless! 😀
And yes, I’ve heard wonderful things about Children of Blood and Bone! It sounds so gritty and cultural. And I’m glad you’re enjoying Cruel Prince; I’ve barely seen any bad reviews! Oh, and Daughter of Smoke and Bone is the only book of Laini Taylor’s that I’ve read, so no need to feel bad about it; I also tend to put off hyped books until years later less my expectations get too high, so I totally get you being cautious about it. 🙂

I loved this post! Many of these books are on my TBR too! I’m waiting to read Strange the Dreamer until it’s close to the sequel, so that I can marathon these 2;) Children of Blood and Bone is an anticipated one. The moment it’s out, I will get my hands on it. And gorgeous cover, isn’t it! I read Astonishing Color of After has a sad/disturbing elements. Maybe you’d want to check out if you’re sensitive to these like me. I see Circe everywhere, still undecided, will wait for your review probably ;P Thanks for this post! I enjoyed a lot. Happy reading!

Ooh, I’m also waiting to read Strange the Dreamer until the sequel! (Marathon CONFIRMED.) And oh my gosh yes, Children of Blood and Bone is sooo gorgeous. Oh, I did not know Astonishing Color was sad; I mean, it’s totally my jam, but it looked so cheerful haha. And DEFINITELY you should read Circe! I don’t know if you’ve read The Song of Achilles by the same author, but it was one of most well-written books I’ve read in years, and I’m almost sure it’s going to be incredible. And I rarely guarantee that haha. 😉 Thanks so much for commenting! ❤
